Indian artifact show
Submitted by Webmaster on Mon, 10/06/2008 - 3:47pmNEWTON FALLS — The Newton Falls Park and Recreation Department, in conjunction with the Mahoning Valley Archeological Society, will present an Indian artifact show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the community center, 52 East Quarry Lane.
Displays will include flint, pottery, slate bead work and baskets. Professional evaluators will be on hand to examine artifacts from the public.

Charity run adds game
Submitted by Webmaster on Sun, 09/14/2008 - 3:30pmNEWTON FALLS — An “I Spy” game will be added to the fourth annual Animal Welfare League’s Charity Motorcycle Run on Sept. 28.
Participants will note unique features at various attractions along the route, which starts and ends at Faces Lounge, 13 Broad St. W.
All motorcycles will head out at noon, with registration from 10 am to noon. Registration fee is $15 per rider and $10 per passenger. The run will take place rain or shine.
The fee includes continental breakfast, door prizes and buffet dinner. Proceeds will benefit the Animal Welfare League.
Bell-ringers sought
Submitted by Webmaster on Sun, 09/14/2008 - 3:30pmNEWTON FALLS — The Salvation Army here is looking for volunteers for its annual holiday bell-ringing to solicit donations.
The signature “red kettle” bell-ringing will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends and some weekdays, in two-hour shifts. Money received by the Newton Falls locations will remain in the township and go to families in need.
To volunteer, call Doug at (330) 872-5574. Children can also volunteer under the supervision of an adult.
Newton Township Cruiser Hit by Train

It happened in Newton Falls, on Miller-Graber Road around 11:00 last night.
Police say the Newton township police department was engaged in a foot pursuit, and an officer parked his car on the tracks to chase after the suspect. The cruiser was then hit by the train, OSP and the Newton Township police department is investigating the incident. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Newton Falls joins state missing-children team

NEWTON FALLS — City council is looking to raise awareness of missing children by supporting the Ohio Child Abduction Response Team as well as donating funds to a training exercise May 17.
The city recently joined the Ohio CART program earlier this year. On Monday, council donated $100 to a Trumbull County CART training exercise here.
The Ohio CART is a network of trained public safety and other individuals from various agencies, jurisdictions, and disciplines who are prepared to respond to specific at risk, missing, endangered or abducted children.
