NEWTON FALLS — A fire in the city damaged three houses on Ophelia Street.
Just after 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, the Newton Falls Fire Department was called to a blaze at 505 Ophelia St.
Fire Chief Richard Bauman said the fire originated in a garage located behind the residence and spread to the side of the home. The garage was a total loss, and the house had some damage.
He said because of blowing winds the fire spread to two other nearby residences — 467 and 511 Ophelia — causing fire and heat damage to the garages and homes on both properties.
COLUMBUS — Federal stimulus money is starting to find its way to Ohio.
Gov. Ted Strickland announced today that as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Ohio National Guard will receive more than $8.5 million for capital improvements to its facilities across the state.
“These funds will help us modernize and restore 22 National Guard facilities across the state while also putting more Ohioans to work,” Strickland said. “Not only will we extend the lives of the facilities, but we will reduce our operating expenses and be more environmentally friendly.”
As you may already know, I am running for the 3rd ward City Council seat that will be on the primary election ballot coming up on May 5th.
